The planning system AirportOffice (AO) is built to meet the requirements of the airport planner within a single planning and simulation environment. This means that all fundamental planning steps can be done with one tool which is also linked to the simulations. This results in saving a great deal of time whilst planning the airport. Usually the design of the airport is performed first, the optimisation is performed afterwards through simulations.
If the simulation comes to the other conclusions, a large amount of time is being lost and a redesign has to be worked out. While performing the simulation during the design phase both working steps can be merged together. For the "dialogue" between the design and simulation AirportOffice has a planning database which includes all relevant information of the actual planning process. The database is the key-link between the design and simulations tools. They receive their relevant information from the database and update the database if any changes in the design have been worked out. The planned range of elements are included in AirportOffice:
- Orientation of runway according to wind data
- Assessment of the Obstacle situation
- Design of airside facilities (runways, taxiways, apron) according to international standards as ICAO
- Compatibility control of different aircraft types
- Detail planning of Taxiway curves / shoulders
- Assessment of visibility (e.g. from tower)
- Calculation of tow curves
- Design and simulation of baggage handling systems
Following AirportOffice modules are in development
In addition the AirportOffice module RollPLAN is developed to calculate exact tow curves of aircraft, vehicles and trailers. RollPLAN can be used like all other Airport Office applications within the AutoCAD environment, to support the planners in their daily work.
The Heightfield Module enables the planner to import
even the most complex geometric data like digital
terrain models. Different import data can be used
to generate complex heightfields, like:
- .txt files with list of 3D points (e.g.point list of satellite measurement)
- Contour lines
- CAD file with 3D points
The AirportOffice Heightfield Module converts or generates these import data to a digital terrain model with different level of detail. Different 3D results are supported:
- 3D faces
- 3D solid
Conversion in both ways are possible - consequently to this, the Heightfield Module generates the list of points on the basis of a 3D digital terrain.
