CAST Airport CDM-Simulation development together with Eurocontrol Print

Together with several european airports Eurocontrol Experimental Centre (EEC) works on the concept, development and implementation of Airport Operation Plan (AOP) and Collaborative Decision Making (CDM). Within this frame the Airport Research Center (ARC) has been contracted to prove and quantify the benefits for ATC, airport, airlines, passenger and environment. More punctuality, better utilisation of resources and improved overall efficiency can be reached by a common information sharing. Based on an integrated simulation (CAST Airport Simulation) of all processes and information flows on an airport the potential gain for different concepts will be determined.

This approach may be applied to any airport and will provide reliable information to speed up decision processes and implement CDM. In order to provide the required simulation technology EEC and ARC in a joint venture extend the CAST terminal and airside simulation system to a full integrated airport simulator. For the first time all terminal processes, aircraft traffic and ground handling procedures are linked dynamically. Not only the movement of passengers and aircraft are simulated but also the flow of information between all actors is considered. Consequently the CAST Simulation Software reaches a new level of capabilities to support aviation industry in the endeavour to develop concepts for more punctuality and highest efficiency. Besides extensive evaluation capabilities the 3D virtual airport environment animation enables to understand the system and give meaningful presentations of the results.
